Perpetual Heartbreak is the debut solo album of Los Angeles-based musician BAO, slated for release on October 9, 2020. Branching out from the rigid electronic pop of L.A.’s synth-pop band Ming & Ping, for whom he wrote and produced five albums over a decade, BAO set out to make a genre-less record that showcases the beauty of imperfections.

The full-length album is a reflection of the constant barrage of emotions in 2020 and the years leading up to 2020. Each of the fourteen tracks is a snapshot of the subject matter BAO is most passionate about: interpersonal relationships, culture and identity (mostly Asian American identity), and mental health.

Aesthetically, Perpetual Heartbreak could be considered "a Phil Collins cassette that had melted in the sun. Which is to say that it’s a bunch of tight, melodic hooks on top of audibly damaged musical settings,” BAO states, “I wanted to create a go-to album for when you want to bask in the glory of sadness.”
